従来の円形グリップボードとは異なり、51 cmの長さのある楕円形は、水平なスペースをより豊かにします。猫がその爪を伸ばすために立っているとき、前後の爪はスクラッチプレートの範囲内に完全に落ちる可能性があり、「スクラッチしながらストレッチしてストレッチする」という猫の性質を満たし、小さなスクラッチプレートの恥ずかしさに別れを告げる「境界外の爪」。
